On October 6, 1983, the bodies of Andrea Scherpf and Bernd Göricke, two German backpackers, were discovered in a wooded area west of Chetwynd, British Columbia, Canada. Both victims had been shot in the head. Bernd and Andrea’s camping gear, passports, and travelers checks were missing from the crime scene. The following day, a pair of bloodstained blue jeans, waist size 34 inches, was discovered about a kilometer away from the crime scene. A forensic serologist determined that the blood was consistent with that of the victims. The case went cold, and nearly six years passed before the RCMP would catch the break they needed and in 1991 a Canadian was convicted of the murders, but was later exonerated by DNA evidence and released.
 The case remains unsolved.
